On this full day shore excursion from Greenock (Glasgow) port we'll travel to Glasgow City Centre where we'll make a short stop for photos. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie inspected his Jacobite army on Glasgow Green one of the cities largest green spaces.
We continue our tour from Glasgow, passing Stirling Castle to medieval Doune Castle. This historic castle was held by the Jacobites in 1746 and used to hold their captives. You'll have time to visit the castle and learn more about its place in Scottish History. Doune Castle featured in many TV productions including Monty Python, Game of Thrones and the Scottish historical drama Outlander (Castle Leoch).
As we travel through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park we'll make a quick stop to feed some Hairy Coo's. Enjoy the panoramic views across the park's majestic mountain and sparkling lochs as we go over the dramatic Dukes Pass. We'll stop and capture some photographs here before having a short comfort break in the village of Aberfoyle.
It's time to experience the highlight of our excursion with a visit to Ledard Farm. There are records of this historic hillside farm dating back to the 15th century. Rob Roy MacGregor joined his father in the Jacobite rising of 1689 and fought at the Battle of Killiecrankie. On his 18th birthday he came of age in the barn where you will spend your visit.
Enjoy a two-course lunch which will be served in MacGregors Barn. Experience an authentic Scottish Highland's gathering where you will see a traditional address to the haggis, and we’ll be looking for two volunteers to dress up to escort the haggis. Song, poetry, and music fills the air while a delicious meal is enjoyed. Everyone is expected to take part in a Scottish gathering and you can look forward to many laughs and lots of fun during your small group tour.
Our day tour continues to the village of Balmaha which lies on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond. The amount of free time here will depend on your ships departure time but at the very least you will be able to capture some spectacular views across the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
We'll board our coach once more, making our way back to Greenock and your ship, where your day trip will end.
