On our Loch Ness tour from Edinburgh to the Scottish Highlands we’ll pass Stirling Castle. There have been several Scottish Kings & Queens crowned here and has a long and bloody history. Our first break of the day will allow us to get a coffee in the small highland town of Callander. Our route takes us through Rob Roy MacGregor territory. One of Scotland’s most notorious outlaws, your driver-guide will tell you more about the exploits of this Scottish folk hero.
See the landscape change as we head into the Highlands, over desolate Rannoch Moor to spectacular Glencoe. Setting to one of the most shameful episodes in Scottish history the “Glencoe Massacre”, we’ll pause here to admire the stunning but haunting beauty of Scotland’s most famous glen.
The Caledonian Canal is considered by many as one of the greatest waterways of the world. 60 miles of outstanding beauty best describes the Caledonian Canal. 22 miles of the waterway are man-made, the remaining 38 miles are made up of Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness. At the southern tip of Loch Ness lies the historic hamlet of Fort Augustus. With around 2 hours here you will have the option of taking a Loch Ness monster boat cruise, have some lunch or enjoy a wander along the shores of the loch.
Our return to Edinburgh will see us travel through the Cairngorms National Park and across ‘Monarch of the Glen’ country where once again you may notice the landscape change from mountain and moorland to lush forest and woodland. We’ll pass Blair Castle on our way to our evening stop at the Victorian resort town of Pitlochry.
Returning to Edinburgh, you get a great view of one of Scotland’s most iconic structures, the Forth Rail Bridge which has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site.

I very highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Nick, was fantastic - keeping up commentary on the scenery along our route, checking everyone was okay, joking with the kids. Despite it being a long day (12 hours) none of the drives between stops were more than 2 hours. This made it very manageable. We even made such good time that we could squeeze in an extra few stops for photos. Safety on board in terms of COVID is top-notch. Nick explained what precaution we would have to take but these never felt too restrictive or as if the hindered our experience. So would definitely recommend.
