Just a 40-minute drive from Glasgow in your luxury mini coach and we’re in the heart of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. This is Rob Roy MacGregor country, stomping ground of this Scots folk hero who’s immortalised in fiction and film. Was he a legendary soldier and clan leader, or a villain and outlaw?  We’ll let you decide. Our sojourn begins in the quaint, conservation village of Luss, where tidy rows of cottages stretch down to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and are brimming with floral displays in summer. A Christian settlement for at least 1500 years, Luss is a tourists’ favourite, especially its picture postcard Church founded by the Celtic Saint MacKessog. In its churchyard lies a legacy of the lawless Vikings: their 11th century ‘hogback’ Viking grave, a stone-carved sculpture.

You can learn more about the marauding Vikings and the village’s history with the option of a leisurely 90-minute circular cruise from Luss Pier which weaves around Loch Lomond’s many islands – often referred to as the jewels in the loch’s crown.  It’s a special experience to be on Loch Lomond and to get up close to its enigmatic islands. While exploring this historic landscape a live commentary will bring to life the warring Norse folk and the feuding Clan Colquhoun of a few centuries later. If you prefer to stay on dry land there’s plenty of time for you to explore Luss. Clan Colquhoun controlled the area around Loch Lomond and Luss came into its hands in the 14th century. As in so many areas of the Highlands, clan feuding ensued but in more peaceful times they built the ‘model village’ of Luss for their tenants who worked on the estate and in the slate and cotton industries. While on your Loch Lomond cruise it’s not unusual to see deer, osprey and even wallabies! The marsupials were introduced to Inchconnachan island by Lady Arran Colquhoun in the 1940s.

From Loch Lomond your driver-guide will deliver you through the dramatic Duke’s Pass and deep into the Trossachs, the ‘Highlands in miniature’. Majestic Munros - mountains above 3000 feet - laced with rushing waterfalls, reign over a kingdom of forest, river and loch. Opinions differ on the meaning behind the Trossachs, but our favourite is from the Gaelic meaning ‘the bristly country’. This landscape inspired Sir Walter Scott’s poem The Lady of the Lake and his novel Rob Roy and we think you’ll be inspired too, whether to pick up your camera or your notebook. Look out for a favourite photographic subject, our woolly, long-horned Highland cows. We call them hairy coos! Our small group stops for lunch in bustling Callander, often called the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’, where there are walks, tourist attractions, tearooms and shops to browse.

Crowning our Trossachs tour is a visit to Stirling Castle, great royal residence of Stuart Kings and of Mary, Queen of Scots, who was declared monarch here in 1543, aged only nine months. It’s an imposing sight, perched on its crag, and you’ll have 90 minutes to explore this historic gem. The banqueting hall is the largest of its kind ever built in Scotland and you can imagine the colour, noise and opulence of its heyday. The Royal Palace is one of the best-preserved Renaissance buildings in the UK and you’ll be transported back to the childhood years of Mary, Queen of Scots. Or you might prefer a stroll in the serene Queen Anne Gardens. However you choose to spend your time at Stirling Castle prepare to be enchanted and amazed. This whole area has close associations with King Robert the Bruce, Bonnie Prince Charlie and famous Scots patriot William Wallace who was immortalised in the film Braveheart with his cry for ‘freedom’. From the panoramic windows of your coach you’ll spot the 150-year-old National Wallace Monument, a 67-metre high tower perched on the Abbey Craig that commemorates Scotland’s ‘Braveheart’. It overlooks the site of the battle of Stirling Bridge where Wallace defeated a much larger, advancing English army in 1297. As we wave goodbye to Wallace, we return to drop you off in Glasgow.

The tour I took was most informative. Michael our tour guide kept enthralled with the history of the areas we visited. The weather played along and I had a great time wondering through the various sites. Many thanks to Michael for a most enjoyable time, you will see me again in the near future.

09/01/20 – Kamrul

Fantastic tour. Our guide Michael made our trip extra special with his history and stories. We loved every minute of our tour. When I return to Scotland I will plan to stay longer so I can go on more tours with this wonderful company. We were picked up from our hotel in the morning  which made it so easy for us. I HIGHLY recommend our guide Michael and Discover Scotland Tours A+++

My fiance Steven and I booked a day trip to go to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. We were greeted by our tour leader Nick, who is honestly such an amazing guy that he is welcome at our wedding in the states! We saw beautiful sights, learned some interesting facts, listened to some great music, and had honestly good conversation. We were in a smaller group of just 6 including us, and he made sure to include everyone. We heard about this company just researching through google and we have zero regrets that we picked them. While on the tour we were given plenty of time at each location, certain tips on where to go, plenty of stops for picture opportunities, and an easy drive through the country. Next time we are back in Scotland we will be sure to take another trip with them, especially if it means cracking jokes with Nick again.

I loved my experience! Nick was lovely and knew a lot, and the trip went with my expectations. I'm booking another trip with you guys this Saturday. Great company!, keep doing what you are doing, I liked the whole experience.

26/11/19 – Marcia & John

Our Tour Leader was Jerry. He was in a word, fantastic!  He arrived exactly on time, was extremely polite, considerate and so, so knowledgeable of the area and Scotland. His driving was lovely, and quite frankly, there was absolutely nothing negative about the whole experience and we wouldn't have changed a thing! We had a wonderful day, because Jerry showed us the wonders of Scotland.  We are also so very grateful that you didn't cancel the tour as only John and I were in attendance; that speaks to your company's' ethics. I will forever sing the praises of Discover Scotland Tours. We hope all Discover Scotland have a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year and we hope to return to your beautiful country sooner than later.

I was visiting Glasgow for three nights with my sister and sister in law. We asked at the Hilton hotel, where we were staying if they had any info on tours and the concierge suggested your company. I must say that, right from the start, Andy made us feel at home. He was a mine of information and told us about the history of the areas we visited in s very entertaining way. He even played us relative local music. He provided us with suggestions as to where to have lunch in Calendar and, when I left my phone in a pub in Luss, he went out of his way to get it back to me at the hotel the following morning. We were actually the only three on this trip so it was extra special. We couldn't praise your company any higher and would definitely recommend you to friends. 10 out of 10 to you all, especially Andy.

01/11/19 – Mary

My friends and I really enjoyed our trip. We appreciated his stop at Loch Achray, we also enjoyed our tour guides humour, John. He was very flexible and let different people do what they wanted. The size of the tour was great as well. I learned about the tour at Euro Hostel. It was extremely convenient that we were able to book the tour the morning of (and we were still picked up at the hostel). Thank you, the tour was spectacular.

07/10/19 – Connie

My husband Jay and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The beauty, culture, and history of this region is quite memorable. However, for the two of us the greatest memory is Cliff. When we travel, we are not looking for a canned Disneyworld experience. Cliff brought the history of the region alive. He is a great ambassador for Scotland. He took great care to ensure every member of our group's needs were met. Cliff pointed out key elements of each tour stop and regaled us with local information about  places we passed through  between stops.
