Leaving Glasgow, our small group tour heads to the wooded glens and hills of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park where the first heart-thumping destination of this Scottish adventure tour is Go Ape. You’ll safely climb high up into the trees to cross platforms, swings, bridges and rope ladders and gulp in a view that only adventure-seekers get to enjoy.

On this Treetop Challenge you can choose how extreme you go, starting with a 300 metre zip wire and ending with one of the UK’s longest zip wires that stretches over 400 metres into the distance! Safely in your harness, you’ll zoom over the Trossachs’ thick forest and rushing waterfalls to enjoy the view of a privileged few.

After a safe landing we’ll have lunch here before continuing our road trip by luxury mini coach through Tyndrum and historic Bridge of Orchy to desolate but beautiful Rannoch Moor. As the road winds through the moor the sky is reflected in the thousands of tiny lochs giving it an other-worldly atmosphere. This peaty plateau stretches further than the eye can see and is home to wading birds and creatures like grouse and red deer.

The moor suddenly delivers you into the sky-scraping mountains of Glencoe and your driver-guide will take the single-track road towards remote Glen Etive. Once only intrepid climbers, hikers and campers would venture here but now it’s a magnet for tourists thanks to epic scenes in James Bond film Skyfall where Bond took M to his family estate in the Highland wilderness.

Back in Glencoe there’s plenty opportunity to stop for photos and to appreciate its rugged beauty. From this enigmatic glen to Scotland’s most mysterious loch, an expanse of water that cuts 23 miles through the heart of the Highlands. Loch Ness forms part of the Caledonian Canal, a great waterway of the world, and we’ll stop for the night at its southern tip in Fort Augustus. It’s worth strolling the canal-side to watch the boats navigating the village’s eight locks.

In the morning you can get closer to Loch Ness than most with a wind-in-your-hair RIB ride across the water. This power boat ride is the best way to get the clear Highland air into your lungs and, who knows, you might just catch sight of Nessie, our elusive Loch Ness Monster.

Feeling alive and invigorated we’ll jump back in the mini coach and cross country to the beginning of the Cairngorms National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty whatever the season. The park contains a quarter of Scotland’s native forest and is a haven for red squirrels, ospreys and even golden eagles. On the ground keep your eyes peeled for the ‘monarch of the glen’ himself the red deer stag.

Our Highland adventure tour culminates in Killiecrankie and, perhaps, the most heart-thumping ride of them all, a bungee jump 40 metres above water (for ages 14 and over). It’s a historic spot: over 300 years ago a Redcoat soldier leapt 18 feet across the rushing River Garry to escape the Jacobites and today ‘Soldier’s Leap’ is well-known visitor destination. If you’re feeling as brave as a Redcoat you’ll drop from a platform, just below the Garry Bridge, and feel an adrenaline rush like no other before the bungee rope halts your fall and you’re winched back up.

Videos and photos can be purchased to remind you of your Highland bungee jump – and to impress your friends!

Our nerves settled, we head into the picturesque Highland tourist town of Pitlochry for a late afternoon refreshment before returning you to Glasgow.
